We've been letting Eli cry at night to let him get back to sleep on his own. It's been hard. Really hard. And for a few nights in a row I ended up having to get him because he was screaming and wouldn't stop. It would take forever for him to calm down and go back to sleep and I SO wanted to just give him a bottle to help make the process go faster.
I didn't. It was hard, but I didn't. In fact, after 3 nights of waking up at 4am, Josh and I decided I should give him a bottle, just to get him to calm down quicker. And wouldn't you know it? He slept until 6am, never waking up. So that idea went out the window.
I know he's teething. He's drooling and chewing on everything he can get his little hands on. I think that's what has been waking him up at night so 3 nights ago I gave him some Tylenol before bed. He slept all night long. Gave him Tylenol the next night, too. And he slept all night long, waking up at 7am. Last night Josh put him to bed while I picked up Callie from Vacation Bible School. He forgot the Tylenol. Didn't matter, because Eli slept until 6:30am, waking happily and talking to himself until I went in to get him.
But wait, there is a problem to all this sleeping through the night. It's a good one, I promise! But a problem nonetheless. Or maybe more of an inconvenience. Even though he is sleeping through the night, he does wake up every now and then and flip over to his tummy. Then he'll fall back to sleep like that, which is usually how I find him in the mornings. And when I flip him back over to pick him up, I'm rewarded with pee-soaked pajamas and crib sheet.
So. Gross.
And there's nothing really I can do about it. I didn't go through this with my girls because well, they're girls. They're made different. And Eli's diaper just can't hold the amount of pee that kid has during the night. Poor thing has had to endure a change of clothes first thing in the morning for a few days straight. And I've had to wash sheets, jammies, and mattress pads for a few days straight. But you know? I'd rather have an extra load of laundry than have to get up in the middle of the night. Inconvenient, yes, but very much one I'll deal with.

I always had that problem with the boys (especially Malachi). There are some diaper inserts that are cheap that may help (they look kind of like extra, extra long pads). You'd probably have to have them shipped, but they work for through the night. I think I got them at Babies R Us for like 10 cents a piece. It saves you from waking up with the foul odor in the morning. Both my boys are/were belly-sleepers. Malachi still is, and of course, the plumbing :) Glad he is sleeping thru the night!
